Proclaimed in 1994 as the first European stork village by EuroNatur (European Nature Heritage Fund), the Croatian village of Čigoč is enclosed in the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park. Čigoč is a synthesis of the countryside in the alluvial plain of the river Sava... a village united to its land, which the inhabitants try to preserve. As a result, it gives ornithologists and lovers of fauna and flora a privileged observation spot for the stork, which faithfully goes there every year to reproduce. So much so that in spring, there are more storks than inhabitants.
